AMD launched the second generation of its Versal SoCs, emphasizing heterogeneous solutions encompassed in a monolithic form factor. Designed to leverage flexibility offered by programmable logic, the new generation of devices will incorporate pre-processing, artificial intelligence (AI) inference and post-processing in single chip solutions. A roadmap of products will scale to meet the requirements of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and automated driving (AD) capabilities supporting both standard camera-based as well as other proprietary sensor-based systems including lidar and radar. The second generation Versal adaptive SoCs will be offered in Versal AI Edge Gen 2 and Versal Prime Gen 2 variants. First silicon is scheduled to tape out in 2025, but the company has already lined up an automotive partner, Subaru. The OEM will be using the Versal AI Edge Series Gen 2 in Subaru’s next-generation camera-based EyeSight ADAS system.
