AMD Flips 3D V-Cache in New Ryzen 7 9800X3D Champion Gaming CPU
Discover the features and performance advantages of the new Zen 5 architecture and its second generation 3D V Cache technology used in AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D.
AMD’s Ryzen 7 9800X3D uses the new Zen 5 architecture and its second generation 3D V Cache technology. The new V Cache puts the additional L3 SRAM cache memory below the core complex die (CCD) processor, unlike the earlier 3D products that placed it above the processor die. This change enables more effective cooling of the CCD, providing higher clock rates and a claimed average 8% improvement in gaming performance compared to previous generations and up to a 20% speed gain on the competition. The improved cooling also means that AMD has enabled overclocking on the part, another change from previous X3D generations.
