The Chip Insider®– AI PC/Smartphone: Hype or Driver?

Summary:

A lot is riding on an AI PC demand surge next year. That's not to mention AI-Phones displacing Smartphones. Market leaders in both PCs and Smartphones are betting heavily on AI shifting demand up… So mirroring the question of hype or driver is one of a bad-news/good-news hedge: The downside being hedged with the layoffs and the upside hedged by amping up supply chain excitement… Another question is whether this is purely a marketing move to communicate truly new features, or will the AI letters added to the PC/Smartphone name drop off in a few years. One way to tell is product naming… Samsung is going all in with its 'Galaxy AI' series, which has a comprehensive set of AI apps…

The whole point about monetizing AI as a Foundational Technology is that AI won’t BE the product. AI will be IN the product. Putting AI in products allows competitors to sell more, as it entices buyers to replace their NSI PCs and Smartphones (Not So Intelligent)… AI at the edge will come. It’s not a question of if. It’s a question of when. It’s a field of dreams scene: If you build the hardware, the software with come. That’s the history of computing. Now that we have the hardware, it is possible for apps to emerge.

that where you sit, you create everything that’s going to come."
