Skymont Targets P-Core Parity
Author: Dylan Mcgrath
Intel’s Skymont CPU represents a significant evolution of the company’s efficiency cores (E-cores) from the humble origins of the Atom low-power core to something much closer in performance-per-clock to the company’s recent flagship performance cores (P-cores). Skymont offers double the vector throughput of its most recent predecessor to boost AI performance. It boasts a geomean instructions per cycle (IPC) improvement of 38% on integer code and 68% on vector code compared to its predecessor Crestmont low-power (LP) E-cores, supporting the overall Lunar Lake goal of running more workloads completely on the E-cores to maximize power efficiency.
