Game Console Vendor and Model Market Share: Q4 2024 by Region

Sony enjoyed its best holiday period as shipments of PlayStation 5 reached their highest level since its launch in 2020, with 9.5 million units shipped in Q4 2024. It is only 0.2 million behind PlayStation 4’s peak sales in Q4 2016, which also coincided with the launch of PlayStation 4 Pro. As Nintendo Switch entered its eighth year since its launch in 2017, its sales declined faster than anticipated in 2024, with Nintendo lowering its shipment forecast during its Q3 FY25 earnings call. Nintendo expects to reverse the trend with the impending launch of its successor, Switch 2, which was recently teased on Nintendo's website. The recent launch of Sony's PlayStation 5 Pro and the imminent launch of Nintendo Switch 2 should provide momentum to a game console market expected to grow by 5.7% in 2025, reaching over 38 million units shipped this year.
