This report presents a display process analysis of the Apple iPhone 5 LCD InCell Retina display. The displays were extracted from iPhone 5 MD294C/A smartphones. The Apple iPhone 5 LCD InCell Retina display supersedes the iPhone 4 LCD Retina display, which included a layer of touch screen electrodes separate from the LCD display itself. The elimination of the extra layer of touch screen electrodes in the iPhone 5 InCell Retina display contributes to higher display clarity and reduced display thickness compared to the iPhone 4 Retina display. This report includes images and analysis of the iPhone 5 teardown, SEM analysis of color filters, dielectrics, metallization, and transistors, plan view analysis of the color filter glass and TFT glass components, SEM-EDS of major microstructural layers.
