Global smartphone apps processors (AP) with on-device artificial intelligence (AI) increased 4 percent year-over-year in Q4 2024 despite the overall shipments of smartphone APs down 8 percent in the same time period. Qualcomm, MediaTek and Apple APs continue to dominate the absolute volume of on-device AI designs in Q4 2024 with MediaTek making significant gains relative to Qualcomm in the Android ecosystem. This report tracks quarterly shipments of key smartphone AI AP chips for major vendors, splits between deterministic and the new generative AI capabilities, and includes provisional estimates up to Q3 2025.
