McClean Report October 2024: Pure-Play Foundry Leaders and Forecast

The worldwide semiconductor foundry market declined 13% in 2023 to $124.0 billion from its record high level of $142.6 billion set in 2022. The decline in 2023 was the worst annual sales decline for the semiconductor foundry business since this market segment plummeted 35% in 2001. The total foundry market has rebounded and is on track to grow 19% in 2024 and is forecast to climb to $238.9 billion in 2028 in the updated McClean Report outlook. TSMC, UMC, GlobalFoundries, and SMIC—the “Big 4” foundry players—accounted for 87% of total pure-play foundry sales in 2023 and are likely to repeat that again in 2024. Three China-headquartered companies were ranked among the top-10 largest pure-play foundries by sales volume in 2023.
