The race for smaller pixel sizes in CMOS image sensors (CIS) has reached new heights. Samsung and OmniVision unveiled 0.56 µm pixel size CIS with advanced features, while Sony introduced its innovative 2-Layer Transistor Pixel Stacked CMOS Image Sensor.

Recent device acquisitions from Xiaomi and Vivo offer insights into these cutting-edge technologies.

SK hynix also entered the competition, announcing 0.70 µm and 0.64 µm pixel sizes with advancements in air gap aperture grid structures.
