The Image Signal Processor (ISP) performs a fundamental role in the operation of CMOS image sensors. The processor converts photocharge generated on a sensor array into a digital signal and then executes digital processing on the resulting digitized pixels. Often stacked directly underneath an imaging chip, the device is difficult to analyze and TechInsights uses its sophisticated laboratory to expose the device and look at the fabrications and layout used in its design.
